The Clough Center for the Study of Constitutional Democracy offers a variety of grants for undergraduate, graduate and professional students. For more information about a specific grant, download the Call for Application below.

Civic Internship Grants: Summer 2016


Please Note: The application deadline for this grant passed on May 6. We are no longer accepting applications for Civic Internship Grants. Applications are under review.

Consistent with the Center’s mission to support students committed to service to others, the Clough Center will provide grants to Boston College undergraduates for what would be otherwise uncompensated part-time or full-time work on behalf of government, non-profit, or other civic organizations during the summer of 2016. Grants will not be awarded for internships engaged in endorsing candidates for political office, or for Political Action Committees.

All recipients of a Civic Internship Grant will become Clough Center Junior Fellows for the 2016-17 academic year. As fellows, they will be expected to attend Junior Fellows Program meetings and events, and will also enjoy members-only events and discussions, providing a unique forum for intellectual discourse.

Fellowship Program for Graduate Students

The Clough Center invites applications from Boston College graduate students conducting research on any aspect of constitutional democracy to participate in its Graduate Fellow Program for the 2016-17 academic year. The Center seeks to appoint Fellows from among graduate students in the Social Sciences (Economics, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology) and the Humanities (Classical Studies, English, History, Philosophy, Theology), as well as the other professional schools.

Fellowship Program for Law Students


Please Note: The application deadline for this fellowship passed on April 8. We are no longer accepting applications for the Fellowship Program for Law Students.

The Clough Center invites applications for appointment as a Clough Academic Law Fellow. These positions are open to Boston College Law Students of exceptional academic ability and accomplishment who are enrolled in any of the Law School’s degree programs. Incoming students in the JD and the LLM programs will be eligible for this award at the recommendation of the Admissions Committee or the Graduate Admissions Committee, as the case may be. All other law students should follow the application instructions in the Call for Application.

Clough Public Interest Law Scholars


Please Note: The application deadline for this fellowship passed on April 8. We are no longer accepting applications for the Clough Public Interest Law Scholars.

Consistent with the Center’s mission to support students committed to service to others, the Clough Center will provide grants to Boston College first and second-year law students for uncompensated public interest work, in the United States or abroad, during the summer of 2016.

Clough Public Interest grants cannot be held in conjunction with a Law School PILF grant. However, all positions that qualify for a PILF award through the Law School are eligible for this award with the exception of judicial internships, provided that the position allows the student to explore some relevant aspect of constitutional democracy.

Travel Grants: 2015-2016 Academic Year


Please Note: Travel grants are no longer available for the 2015-2016 academic year. 

The Clough Center will award a limited number of ad hoc grants to faculty, undergraduate, and graduate students for travel  to enable qualified scholars to undertake work related to the Center’s mission. Such work includes travel for attendance at conferences, research, and other relevant endeavors. The award of travel grants is subject to available financial resources.
