Paying Attention to What Matters
The Center for Ignatian Spirituality will sponsor again a lunchtime seminar for three Tuesdays this fall on "free association" and the "Examen" of Saint Ignatius Loyola: two different traditions, two fruitful practices, both of which can lead a person to greater freedom and deepened relationships.
"Free association” is the foundational practice of awareness within the psychoanalytic tradition; the "Examen" is an Ignatian practice of awareness, which seeks to deepen one's relationship with God.
Paying Attention to What Matters will be a conversation about and experience of these two methods of self knowledge and growth, led by Tim Kochems, Ph.D. (Massachusetts Institute for Psychoanalysis and the Boston Institute for) and Michael Boughton, SJ (Center for Ignatian Spirituality). It will take place from noon to 1pm on Tuesday October 6, Tuesday October 13, and Tuesday October 20, at the Center for Ignatian Spirituality, 96 College Road, and is open to Boston College faculty, administrators, staff and graduate students. Enrollment is limited, first come, first serve. To apply, contact Cindy Blazuk at 617-552-1777 or email blazuk@bc.edu.
Finding God in All Things
Ignatian spirituality invites us to search for and find God, not just in explicitly
religious activities, but in ALL the circumstances of our lives.
From 8:30 to 9:15 AM on Wednesday, October 14 and Wednesday, October 21, Gail O’Donnell, RSCJ, will speak about ways to increase our awareness of God’s presence in all of our reality – including in nature, the present moment, and in invitations to growth which we experience.
Sr. O’Donnell is an experienced spiritual director, and teaches at the School of Theology and Ministry. This two session workshop is open to Boston College faculty, staff, administrators and graduate students. Places are limited. To register, contact Cindy Blazuk at 617-552-1777 or email blazuk@bc.edu.
Ways of Choosing: Discernment and Decision Making
“The saints describe conversion as a falling love. A powerful new love ignites and works its way through the whole person. It pulls lesser love into line, like a magnet aligning iron filings. Being in love gives life a deep sense of purpose …”
(Dean Brackley, S.J., A Call to Discernment)
From noon to 1 PM on four Wednesdays (October 28, November 4, 11 and 18) George Drury, S.J., and Michael Boughton, S.J., will explore the meaning of Ignatian discernment, making use of Fr. Brackley’s book. Good discernment and good decision making are the best sources when seeking for new life and a lasting love!
This four session workshop is open to Boston College faculty, staff, administrators and graduate students. Spaces are limited. To register, contact Cindy Blazuk at 617-552-1777 or email blazuk@bc.edu.

Exploring Spirituality at Mid-Life
The baby-boomers (born between 1946 and 1964) have reached middle age! What does it mean to be mid-life? And where and how may one experience God in this part of the journey?
Lisa Hastings and Michael Boughton, S.J. will present three sessions exploring these questions with participants. Spring semester, TBA.
