The Arts and Social Responsibility encourages and promotes student involvement, leadership and suggestions. Here are a few ways you can be part of this exciting initiative. Take a moment of your time to recommend a course, suggest a guest lecturer, or commit to working with us to develop a project that enriches the community. Opportunities must fit within the mission of CASR.
Some ideas to get you started:
Suggest a speaker or artist
We seek to enrich the BC community by inspiring and educating through example. If you've heard relevant lectures by fascinating speakers or know of anyone who is an inspiration through their work in this area, contact us at casr@bc.edu so we can look into bringing them and their work to campus.
Post an Event
If you'd like us to list and event that has already been planned, send us the event time, place, description, sponsors and contact information. Email casr@bc.edu
Recommend a Course
ASR encourages students to pursue an interdisciplinary understanding of the combined power of the arts and social responsibility. If you've taken a course that fit our mission or worked with a professor that you think other students could be inspired by, let us know.
Propose a Project
The ASR will fund student run projects at BC. Proposed projects must be both ethical and responsible. We will not discriminate on the basis of personal politics or opinions as long as the proposal offers a valid argument for the social benefits of the project. There is more detailed information on the page dedicated to Forms and Applications. See samples of past projects.
Film a Social Justice Documentary
The Jacques Salmanowitz Program for Moral Courage in Film is devoted to encouraging the production of social justice films concerned with acts of moral courage, providing role models for youth worldwide. The Salmanowitz Program offers assistance to BC students for specific film projects that meet this criteria. More information can be acquired through the Fine Arts Department/Film Studies Program.
Serve on the Student Board of Advisors
The CASR Student Board works with student projects and is responsible for connecting other BC students and student groups with the Center's work. The Board is selected in January of each year. Applications are due December 1st. Email casr@bc.edu to request an application.
