CarpenterDwayne Eugène Carpenter is Professor of Hispanic Studies, Chair of the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures, and Co-Director of the Jewish Studies Program at Boston College. The author of several books on medieval religious and intellectual history, he has a special interest in the historical role of gambling in society. Among his gambling-related articles are “Fickle Fortune: Gambling in Medieval Spain” (Studies in Philology) and “‘Alea jacta est': At the Gaming Table with Alfonso the Learned” (Journal of Medieval History). Carpenter holds a Ph.D. in Romance Languages & Literatures from the University of California, Berkeley, as well as a Ph.D. in Medieval Historical Studies from the Graduate Theological Union, Berkeley.
