Ms. Carmen A. Abubakar
Dean, Institute of Islamic Studies
University of Philippines.

Dr. Abubakar received her B.S. in Education at Notre Dame College in Jolo, Sulu and then went on to receive a Masters in teaching from the University of the Philippines in Diliman. While there she went on to get her Ph.D. in Phillippine Studies. Before becoming the Dean at the University of the Philippines, she was a research coordinator there, followed by five years as the editor of "Ayat Az-Zaman", the journal of the Institute of Islamic Studies at the University of the Philippines. She has written about the society and culture of the Muslims in the Philippines and has been published in such academic journals such as: "Third World Publications", "Women Studies Journal", "Arena" from Hong Kong, and in Singapore and London.


Mr. Muhammad Modassir Ali
Research Associate/Lecturer, Islamic Research Institute,
International Islamic University, Islamabad

Mr. Ali earned his M.A. in comparative religion from the International Islamic University, Islamabad, where he still resides and is reading for his Ph.D. and being a research associate and lecturer. He has previous teaching experience at Hamdard University in Islamabad where he taught from 1999-2000. His translation of the Covenant of Umar with the People of Jerusalem was published in Islamic Studies 2002.


Mr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman

Dhaka University for Subject Institute

Dr. Akhtaruzzaman received his masters in Islamic History and Culture from Dhaka University, and a Ph.D. in the same field from Aligarh Muslim University in India. He has taught in various capacities at Dhaka University since 1990, moving up to become an associate professor in 1999. He has been published extensively in many English and Bangla professional journals.


Mr. Adnan Mahmoud Assaf
Lecturer, Faculty of Shari'ah and Islamic Studies
University of Jordan

Dr. Assaf received his B.A. in Islamic Jurisprudence and Legislation from the University of Jordan. From there he went on to earn a masters in Islamic Jurisprudence and its Principles at Al Al Bayt University in Jordan, followed by a Ph.D. in Islamic Studies from The University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom. He has participated in many conferences including a postgraduate workshop on "Islamic Research: Researching the Qur'an as a primary source."


Mr. Ahmed Mohsen Mohammed Al-Dawoody

Al Azhar University for Subject Institute

Mr. Dawoody received his B.A. in Islamic Studies from Al Azhar University followed by a M.A. from Leiden University in the Netherlands with a thesis entitled: "The Intellectual Repercussions of the Abolition of the Caliphate in Egypt" which was published in English. Before becoming an Assistant Lecturer at Al Azhar, he was a Demonstrator in the same department. Among the courses he teaches are, "Comparative Religion" and "Civilization".


Mr. Fareed Hadi
Professor of Islamic Studies; College of Arts
University of Bahrain

Dr. Hadi received his B.A. in Prophetic Sunna and its Sciences from the University of Imam Mohammed Bin Saud. He went on to earn a M.A. in Modesty in Islamic Thoughts from the same University. From there he pursued two Ph.D.'s one in Islamic Studies from the University of Edinburgh in the United Kingdom, and the second in Hadith Science from the University of King Mohamed the 5th in Morocco. Dr. Hadi was both a high school teacher in Bahrain and a Lecturer at the University of Bahrain before taking his present position at the University.

Mr. Hassan earned a B.A. in Islamic Education and a M.A. in the Methods of Teaching Religious Courses from Al-Quds University in Jerusalem. He has written four books including "Al Al Bayt" (People of the House) and The Mission of Islam. He is also a member of the National Team for Islamic Education in Jerusalem. Mr. Hassan has visited the United States before on a program entitled "Religion in America" in February of 1999.


Mr. Kamarul Shukri Mat Teh

Mr. Kamarul received his B.A. in Islamic Studies from the University of Umm Al Qura in Saudi Arabia and then earned his M.A. in Islamic Studies from the National University of Malaysia. His two most recent books are entitled, Complimentary Relations Between Al-Quran and Arabic and Style and Strategies of Arabic Language Learning both published in 2001.


Mr. Ibrahim Mu'azzam Maibushira

Bayero University, Kano

Mr. Maibushira received his B.A. and M.A. in Islamic Studies from Bayero University, Kano. Along with lecturing at Bayero University for ten years, he is the sub-Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Islamic Studies since 2002 and was for three years an Admission Officer there as well. He is a member of the Academic Staff Union of Universities and also of the Islamic Teachers Association of Nigeria.


Mr. N.P. Hafiz Mohamad
Lecturer and Head, Department of Sociology
Farook College

Mr. Mohamad received his B.A. in Sociology from Z.G. College in Calicut and followed that by earning a M.A. in Sociology from the University of Kerala Trivandrum. He is submitting his Ph.D. at the University of Kerala in 2002. Mr. Mohamad has been the Staff Editor of the Farook College Magazine, Vice President of All Kerala Sociological Society and a member of the Board of Studies in Sociology, University of Calicut, amongst his other previous positions. Presently, along with his position at Farook College, he is a Honorary Director of the Suraksha De-Addiction and Counseling Center, Honorary Editor of Asaya Samanwayam Magazine, and also a member of the Board of Studies in Sociology at Kannur University in Kerala along with many other positions. His most recent publication is entitled, "Residential Pattern of Matrilocal Muslims."


Mr. Munib-Ur-Rehman

Mr. Munib-Ur-Rehman received his M.A. in Islamic Studies from Shahadad-Ul-Alimiyah Tanzeemul-Madaris in Pakistan. He has thirty years of teaching experience and is also the Chairman of the Central Reut-E-Hilal Committee in Pakistan and was a member of the Board of Studies for the Faculty of Islamic Learning and Department of Arabic at the University of Karachi. He has written books for graduate level classes including topics such as Shariat Laws, Islamics Jurisprudence, and Understanding Religious Problems. He also writes a weekly column in the Roznama Express Karachi on religious questions and answers.


Mr. Mehmet Pacaci
Professor, Faculty of Theology, Ankara University

Mr. Pacaci received his B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. in Theology from Ankara University. He has published extensively including such books as Eschatological Beliefs in the Qur'an and the Bible and The Problem of Methodology in Islamic Science. He is also published in many academic journals including the articles "Some Considerations on the Tradition of Revelation (Vahy) in Relation to the Bible from Qur'anic Prespective" and "On the Method of Understanding (Fiqh)" in the Journal of Islamic Research. Currently in his position at Ankara University he teaches courses entitled "Semitic Character of the Qur'an" and ""Qur'an and Judeo Christian Religious Texts".


Mr. Mun'im A. Sirry
Lecturer, Faculty of Theology and Faculty of Medical Science
Muhammadiyah University, Jakarta

Mr. Sirry received his B.A. in Islamic Law with honors from the International Islamic University of Pakistan, then went on to earn his M.A. there too. Presently, he is a Ph.D. candidate at the State University of Islamic Studies Syarif Hidayatullah in Jakarta. He is a very prolific writer, publishing his first book while at university, entitled A History of Islamic Law: An Introduction. He also writes for major Indonesian newspapers such as Kompas, Koran Tempo, and Media Indonesia. Presently he is an Editor and Researcher at Paramadina Foundation in Jakarta and a Lecturer at the Faculty of Theology at the Advanced School of Theology in Jakarta along with his position at Muhammadiyah University. He teaches many classes entitled "Al Islam."


Ms. Saida Yahya-Othman
Associate Professor, Linguistics
University of Dar es Salaam

Ms. Yahya-Othman received her B.A. with honors from the University of Dar Es Salaam and then went on to receive a M.A. in Linguistics from the same university. She continued there and earned a Ph.D. in English. At Dar Es Salaam she has been a Senior Lecturer, Head of the Department of Languages and Linguistics, and Associate Dean before she achieved her current position. She is a member of the African Linguistics Association of Southern Africa and of Wasafiri (a translator's association) among other things. She has been published in many journals including an article entitled, "Interactivity and Interactive Acts" in the Journal of Linguistics and Language in Education and "When International Languages Clash" in Language in Education in Africa: A Tanzania Perspective.
