Apocalypse Now? Fatal Consequences of the Destruction of the Wall Separating Church and State in the United States Military

Mikey Weinstein, Military Religious Freedom Foundation

Date:
Tuesday, February 15th,
Time: 7:00PM
Location: Devlin Hall, Room 101

Mikey Weinstein is the founding president of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF) and author of With God on Our Side: One Man’s War Against an Evangelical Coup in America’s Military (St. Martin’s Press, 2006). The book chronicles his 2005 suit against the U.S. Air Force charging that evangelical Christian officers were being allowed to proselytize troops. One of three generations of military academy graduates, Weinstein is a 1977 honor graduate of the United States Air Force Academy. He served for 10 years as a Judge Advocate General, or military attorney, and spent more than three years as legal counsel in the Reagan White House, where he was a committee management officer during the Iran-Contra investigation. Weinstein also served as general counsel for Ross Perot. Since 2006, he has focused full-timeon the nonprofit MRFF, which he founded to fight what he calls “far-right militant radical evangelical religious fundamentalists.” Americans United for the Separation of Church and State recently named Weinstein its 2011 Person of the Year.
