The Delta Factor
Wednesday 7-10 P.M.

Brian Cleary
Birthplace: Boston, MA

Show Description:
Overall, the show is geared to take the listener elsewhere… or to provide a soundtrack that makes  the ‘here & now’ a more riveting experience. It’s  moody collage of song, sound, texture, rhythm, and sometimes words.

The listeners:
I get a lot of calls from artists who say they always paint, design, sculpt, or whatever they do to the show. I also get calls from musicians who listen regularly for inspiration or just to hear new ideas.  Stargazers. That’s another one. Rare, but significant, so worth mentioning.

The name:
Something about the “delta” brainwaves and the mental state they represent—halfway between sleep and alertness.  Most of the music I play seems to live there. I seem to live there quite a bit myself. Alison, who started the show, named it after an essay by Walker Percy. But I read it and decided to keep my interpretation of the title.

The show:
The Delta Factor has a soul of it's own. I’m just there to play records for it.

The music:
I don’t care if it’s high brow or low brow or no brow (totally obscure), if I like it and fits the theme of the show, I play it. I’m not into the whole ‘music as fashion’ thing. I just like music. Overall, the show is for people who feel music several layers below the epidermis.

Other Things about Brian (aka: The Very):
I discovered WZBC in December of 1981. I used to tape it whenever he was in Boston and then spend every cent I had on the records I liked so I could play them on my show, one of the first experimental shows in Florida (1983-90 Melbourne, FL ) at WFIT. I used to play keyboards in a surf/new wave/secret –agent music band in Melbourne Beach FL called Locals Only . It was fun. I also do rock show’s occasionally, when someone else can’t. I’ll also occasionally fill in for Victor on Lucid Sounds (Saturday AM), or Linda on Craven Circle (Sunday, 6-8 PM). Oh, me, right. I have a cat who listens from home weekly and critiques me on segues, music, delivery, etc. I like writing, playing piano/keyboards (play live occasionally as The Very) , swimming, surfing, waterskiing, movies, peanut butter cookies, people, coffee, those little plastic cartoon figures that collapse and dance when you push the button underneath their platform, and the tingly feeling you get down your spine when a song hits you the right way.
