BCRFC OFFSEASON UPDATE

February 4, 2008- The Boston College Rugby Football Club had another strong year in 2007, going 4-3-1 and finishing 4th in NERFU.  Despite an unfortunate playoff exit following a loss to Army, BCRFC continues to recognize the outstanding talent and commitments of its players.  Recognition is annually given to three players who demonstrate outstanding value to the club.

BCRFC Recognizes Outstanding Players
For 2007, Rookie of the Year went to freshman Alex Hunt.  A USA U-20 player, Hunt joined the club straight out of Boston College High School and immediately made an impact on the field.  His dominating play from the No. 8 position was instrumental in BC’s domination of the gain line.

BCRFC’s Most Improved Player was Teddy Brisbane.  A sophomore, Brisbane made great strides from his position at center.  The club expects Teddy to be a valuable member of the A-side squad in 2008.

The honor for Most Valuable Player went to Phil Albanese.  Throughout the 2007 season, Albanese consistently demonstrated strong leadership from his Captain position.  On the field, he remained BCRFC’s top scoring threat and consistently frustrated opposing defenses.

Club Officers Announced
Following the completion of the 2007 season, BCRFC met to announce the new club officers for 2008.  Senior Kyle Murray was named as President.  Murray will be responsible for establishing the direction of the club, as well as overseeing the other executive officers.  Kyle was the former Treasurer of the club, and brings a wealth of administrative experience to the position.

BCRFC’s newest Captain is Duncan Gills.  After missing much of 2006 with a knee injury, Duncan returned in 2007 and played a crucial role in the back row, providing inspiring performances in many of BCRFC’s matches.  Duncan will lead BCRFC on the field in their 2008 campaign.

George O’Toole will take over as Vice President.  Responsible for recruiting and player development, George will take responsibility for a vital part of the club as they seek to grow and expand beyond their already strong membership.

Taking over as Assistant Captain will be sophomore Conor Hynes.  Hynes, a former flanker, provides valuable experience and leadership from his position at scrumhalf.

The rest of the Executive Officers consist of Andrew Steck and Padraig Friel, taking over at Treasurer and Match Secretary.  Steck will be responsible for keeping BCRFC’s finances in order, while Friel will look over the weekly match logistics.

Looking Ahead To 2008
The BCRFC Eagles are looking forward to what should be an exciting 2007-2008 season.  The Eagles will play a handful of matches this spring as they look to develop their on-field presence.  Overall the squad is very optimistic, as they return many skilled and young players.  Over the past few years, BCRFC has sought to strengthen the club both on and off the field.  This year should be no different, as the Eagles will again make a run for the National Sweet 16 Rugby Championships.
