BCRFC Alumni -

This year the Boston College Rugby Football Club has the potential to field one of the strongest teams in the Club’s forty year history.  

The A-Side will take the pitch with 11 returning starters coached for a second year by John Dalton, formerly with the Boston Irish Wolfhounds during their back-to-back National Championships in 2003 and 2004.  Also returning for his second year as part of the coaching staff is Jeff Monffette.  Dalton and Monfette are joined this year by Jeff Sperling (developmental squad Coach) and Coilin Jones (forwards coach).

The sixty-five returning players trained hard this summer with our weight lifting routine, cardiovascular conditioning program, and on the pitch with such teams as the Boston Irish Wolfhounds, Old Blue in New York, and the 2007 National 7’s Champions Chicago Lions.
Two-a-day preseason training began in late August with morning conditioning sessions conducted by trainer Eric Osgood (Gold’s Gym Needham/Millis) and leadership training organized by Sarah Greeley (Lincoln/Sudbury).  In the afternoon, the Team returned to the BC Brighton Campus (St. John’s Fields) for traditional practices run by Coach Dalton and his staff.  In the evening Boston sports psychologist, Dr. Steven Durant, returned for a second year to work with the BCRFC ruggers on building a cohesive and effective Team.  On the first day of classes, we enjoyed each others company with our annual opening Mass and BBQ.  This past weekend (9/8) all three sides won in preseason competition against St. Michael’s College, Vermont (Div II).

The BCRFC Eagles kicked-off the NERFU season (at right) with a 10-10 tie against Harvard - B & C sides both won their matches.         

We plan to celebrate the BCRFC 40th anniversary in four ways this year.
