BCRFC completes regular season

This Saturday in Chestnut Hill, the Boston College Men’s Rugby Team faced off against the University of New Hampshire in their final regular season game. In a one-sided effort, the Eagles put away UNH by a score of 74-12.

It was a very physical game, but strong play from the BC pack allowed for clean ball for the backs. BC’s pack controlled their lineouts and scrums thanks to an extraordinary effort by hooker Steve Petteruti, ‘07. Forward play involved hard running by prop Jon Jordan, ’07, and flanker Connor Hynes, ’10. The backs were faced with a hard hitting UNH backline, but they were able to punch the ball through with hard running by center Mike McGovern, ’09. In addition, BC was able to spin the ball out wide to get long tries on the outside. Fly-half Phil Albanese, 08, led the Eagles with three tries, Jordan had two, and Michael Nash, ’08, recorded his first A-Side try of the season. BC was helped in the second half by strong efforts from reserves Steve Walsh, ’09, Michael Hunnewell, ’08, and Lou Somma, ’08.

The win gave BC its first undefeated regular season in quite some time and allowed them to clinch the NERFU White League. Next week, BC will host Norwich University RFC for week one of the NERFU playoffs and is hoping for a big crowd on the Brighton Campus.

The B-side was again impressive, finishing out its regular season with another win and a record of 5-0. Prior to the A-side match the club’s C and D sides played a very tight match with the D-side able to sneak out the victory. The club’s depth this fall has provided great hope for the continued success of the BCRFC.
