BCRFC advances to NRU semifinals

On a cold but clear day in Chestnut Hill, the Boston College Eagles beat Syracuse 27-6 in the quarterfinals of the NRU playoffs.  It was a strong effort by BC; the win puts BC in the NRU semifinals.

BC came out quickly, pushing deep into Syracuses' territory in the first five minutes before having wing Mike McGovern's try taken away when he stepped into touch a meter out from the try zone.  From there, BC had a string of unsuccessful offensive efforts until center Tim Smith broke 40 meters down the sideline and into the try zone to put the Eagles on the scoreboard.  Wing Mike Hunnewell's conversion made the score 7-0. Then, with time running out in the first half, flyhalf Phil Albanese slipped through the defense and into the try zone, putting BC up 12-0 at halftime.

Although BC played the majority of the second half a man down, the Eagles remained dominant.  Two tries from Hunnewell and one from McGovern gave the Eagles the 27-6 victory.  Great performances from center Tim Smith and prop Jon Jordan helped bring the Eagles to victory.

Next week, the Eagles will play rival Harvard in the semifinals of the NRU playoffs in Batavia, New York.  In the team's regular season match, BC won 24-10.  For more information please contact Steve Petteruti (petterut@bc.edu).
