Club Membership
-
SOFC didn't give us a lot of money to work with
-
It is important to pay dues
-
Dues are $15, which include a gift (to be determined...)
-
If you want one of the cool t-shirts from last year, you can pay an extra $5 in dues ($20 total) to include the t-shirt
-
FRLP (Future Republican Leadership Program)
-
A program for BC Freshman to get more involved with the club and help the officers put on events
-
Different this year, because now we have each FRLP member shadow each of the current CR officers
-
Designed to let the FRLP members see how the club works from the inside and to develop leadership skills for the club
-
Everyone on the Executive Board have been in FRLP
-
To apply for FRLP online, go to the club website for an application (www.bc.edu/republicans), starting this Friday
-
Short application, short and casual interview for positions
-
FRLP Newsletter
-
Last year, the College Republican FRLP started a bi-weekly newsletter to share with the club (a copy is emailed to everyone)
-
The FRLP members are in charge of it, but anyone can write an article for it
-
Club members can write an article summarizing a current event, include a picture and the source
-
Right now, Brittany Kademian organizes the newsletter. If you are interested, write a short article and email it to her at: kademiab@bc.edu
-
Campaign efforts and opportunities
-
The election is coming up soon (November 7th)
-
The club is doing a lot of campaigning for Kerry Healey for Governor
-
She's the current lieutenant governor under Mitt Romney- now it is down to just her and D. Patrick for Governor of MA
-
Volunteering opportunities to work on her campaign with phone banking (calling people, talking about issues and Healey)
a.The club does phone banking for Healey every Thursday and Saturday- no experience necessary!
-
She's against giving illegal aliens free hand-outs and drivers licenses, pro-business, and for improving education
-
Another opportunity to work on a political campaign is to help out Doug Obey run for a seat in the Massachusetts legislature (MA State Republican Senator)
-
He's concerned with reducing crime, lowering taxes, having a responsible and efficient government
-
Any interested club member is welcome to work on his campaign for him
-
MACR (Massachusetts Alliance of College Republicans)
-
Amanda Short and Andrew Doyle are members of MACR
-
This is a state-wide collection of CRs (we're the largest members)
-
CR support through state candidates, state issues
-
We work with MACR on Thursday nights (7-9pm) to phone bank for Healey for governor
-
The school with the most calls has MACR give them the opportunity to go to an event of choice with Healey, get to meet her
-
When Romney got elected, he attributed it to phone banking going that extra mile for his campaign, so very important task
-
Outline of plan of events this semester
-
Campaign efforts are crucial for the upcoming election
-
We're to hold a "Support Our Troops Gala/Christmas Gala"
-
Fundraiser (allowed to donate up to $1,000 to a charity)
-
At beginning of 2007, there will be a State of the Union party
-
Suggestion to get Oliver North as a speaker this year
-
Also, a suggestion to get more involved with social issues this year
-
Suggestion to work closer with the Pro-Life Club
-
Funding
-
We only get a quarter of what we need to do from SOFC
-
The club is petitioning for more money
-
CR's can receive outside funding from individuals, but not from corporate sponsors
-
Some organizations can sponsor our events
