1st General Meeting Minutes
Monday, September 25, 2006 @ 7pm
  1. Introduction of the 2006-07 BC CR officers
    1. Amanda Short - President (senior)
    2. Brad Easterbrooks - VP (senior)
    3. Andrew Goff - Treasurer (senior)
    4. Mike Sinacore - Director of Political Affairs (junior)
    5. Tracy Danner - Director of Publicity (junior)
    6. Brittany Kademian - Secretary (sophomore)
    7. Steve Regan - Director of Membership (sophomore)
    8. Eric Hewitt - Webmaster (senior)
  2. Club Membership
    1. SOFC didn't give us a lot of money to work with
      1. It is important to pay dues
    2. Dues are $15, which include a gift (to be determined...)
      1. If you want one of the cool t-shirts from last year, you can pay an extra $5 in dues ($20 total) to include the t-shirt
  3. FRLP (Future Republican Leadership Program)
    1. A program for BC Freshman to get more involved with the club and help the officers put on events
      1. Different this year, because now we have each FRLP member shadow each of the current CR officers
      2. Designed to let the FRLP members see how the club works from the inside and to develop leadership skills for the club
    2. Everyone on the Executive Board have been in FRLP
    3. To apply for FRLP online, go to the club website for an application (www.bc.edu/republicans), starting this Friday
      1. Short application, short and casual interview for positions
  4. FRLP Newsletter
    1. Last year, the College Republican FRLP started a bi-weekly newsletter to share with the club (a copy is emailed to everyone)
      1. The FRLP members are in charge of it, but anyone can write an article for it
      2. Club members can write an article summarizing a current event, include a picture and the source
      3. Right now, Brittany Kademian organizes the newsletter. If you are interested, write a short article and email it to her at: kademiab@bc.edu
  5. Campaign efforts and opportunities
    1. The election is coming up soon (November 7th)
    2. The club is doing a lot of campaigning for Kerry Healey for Governor
      1. She's the current lieutenant governor under Mitt Romney- now it is down to just her and D. Patrick for Governor of MA
      2. Volunteering opportunities to work on her campaign with phone banking (calling people, talking about issues and Healey) a.The club does phone banking for Healey every Thursday and Saturday- no experience necessary!
      3. She's against giving illegal aliens free hand-outs and drivers licenses, pro-business, and for improving education
    3. Another opportunity to work on a political campaign is to help out Doug Obey run for a seat in the Massachusetts legislature (MA State Republican Senator)
      1. He's concerned with reducing crime, lowering taxes, having a responsible and efficient government
      2. Any interested club member is welcome to work on his campaign for him
  6. MACR (Massachusetts Alliance of College Republicans)
    1. Amanda Short and Andrew Doyle are members of MACR
    2. This is a state-wide collection of CRs (we're the largest members)
      1. CR support through state candidates, state issues
      2. We work with MACR on Thursday nights (7-9pm) to phone bank for Healey for governor
        1. The school with the most calls has MACR give them the opportunity to go to an event of choice with Healey, get to meet her
        2. When Romney got elected, he attributed it to phone banking going that extra mile for his campaign, so very important task
  7. Outline of plan of events this semester
    1. Campaign efforts are crucial for the upcoming election
    2. We're to hold a "Support Our Troops Gala/Christmas Gala"
      1. Fundraiser (allowed to donate up to $1,000 to a charity)
    3. At beginning of 2007, there will be a State of the Union party
    4. Suggestion to get Oliver North as a speaker this year
      1. Also, a suggestion to get more involved with social issues this year
      2. Suggestion to work closer with the Pro-Life Club
  8. Funding
    1. We only get a quarter of what we need to do from SOFC
    2. The club is petitioning for more money
      1. CR's can receive outside funding from individuals, but not from corporate sponsors
      2. Some organizations can sponsor our events
