Currently

The club currently holds its meetings in some of the larger lecture halls at Boston College. Our club purpose has expanded as we include more education on the market and the economy to our members. With the complicated state of investments these days, we feel that our members should have a comprehensive background on the different types of trades and assets available in the market.

BCIC is one of the largest and oldest clubs on campus and includes students from all schools within Boston College though more prominently includes students from Arts and Sciences and the Carroll School of Management. We run a portfolio that is currently (3/16/09) valued around $192,000 with 37 positions and an emphasis on Technology, Financial, Consumer Goods, Industrial, and Healthcare stocks. We are still a long-term portfolio basing its performance on the S&P500.

Our board, currently made up of 10 members, strives to teach our members as much as we can about the market in order to keep the club in existence for years to come. We cover market updates in the form of the Weekly Three, member relations in order to encourage members to pitch stocks, and public relations, through both our website and contact with members of the financial world.

The Future

Our biggest question in the future is whether to expand our club directive to include other investment instruments such as futures and derivatives. While we feel that the best way for students to learn these complicated tools is through investing in them themselves with actual money, we are not sure if that is a format that will fit with the original directive or current state of the club. While we have these questions to discuss in the future, the Investment Club will continue to operate as long as students want to come learn about the markets and investing.

Special thanks to Professor Petersen, our longtime advisor, for helping compile this comprehensive club history!
