Meeting Update 11/16/09

Market Update Summary:

Gold

Gold reached an all-time high on Thursday at $1123. Investors view it as an inflation hedge, showing their hesitency to believe that we've exited from economic trouble just yet.

The Dollar

Net exporters to the U.S. are concerned, as a weaker dollar makes their goods more expensive. Big exporters like South Korea are worried that a weak dollar will affect their business performance and economy as well.

Intel/AMD

Intel paid AMD $1.25 billion to settle a patent dispute; AMD feels this is a "meaningful positive" for them. Both companies agree that they need each other to keep creativity in the chip industry.

Portfolio Update Summary:

Beating the S&P by a little over 3%. We have the lowest number of stocks in the portfolio in a while. We lost 2% basis points against the S&P500 recently. Some of our largest positions are USG, KBR, & WAT. Some of our smallest are IBK, CHL, & UPL.
