Wiki this

Date: 26th Feb '08

Turns out our resident webmaster is really bored and has taken the time to begin setting up a page for the Heightsmen on wikipedia. Check it out here. He'd really appreciate any help with regards to the exact story on the origin of the Heightsmen and any random additions to the page, so please buzz him an email or contribute yourself!

We've uploaded some new photos to the website under the randoms section. We'll also be uploading a few videos of our serenades to youtube once they are in.

With that said, Spring Break is on the horizon and the Heightsmen are busy preparing for their show at Brattleboro, VT, this coming weekend. Keep an eye out for photo updates in the upcoming week, and good luck to all with their midterms.

Tryouts

Date: 24th Feb '08

A big thank you to those who tried out for the Heightsmen over the last week. We saw a great amount of talent and potential during our auditions and callbacks.

After hours upon hours of deliberation, however, we have decided to remain with our existing group. We feel that it would be most beneficial for the Heightsmen to pursue it's goals for the semester with our current makeup. We would like to thank all those who tried out for the group and would like to extend an invitation to them to try out again next semester.

A few updates

Date: 28th Jan '08

We apologize for the lack of updates this semester - our resident web-master was having some issues working with the new web-development software. But we have the site updated and ready for action.

Just a few updates:

- Our gigs list has been updated. We're doing a short show on this Sunday for the Newton Country Day School, a gig during BC's Arts Fest and a few other shows (more to come). We'll keep updating the listings as we move through the semester

- We've also updated our repertoire for the semester. The Heightsmen have chosen 3 new songs this semester (and a possible 4th if we have time). They are as follows:

Boyz II Men - Thank You

Beatles - Abbey Road Medley

Top Loader - Dancing in the Moonlight

We'll be working hard on these songs and will hopefully have them out before the end of the semester. In the meanwhile, have a happy Super Bowl Sunday.

Welcoming new blood - Update

As we return from winter break, there's only one thing on the agenda.

Speaking of returning, junior Jim Luo has returned from studying abroad in China last semester. Welcome back.

Not so fast

Date: 12th Dec '07

So it turns out that we have one very last gig this semester, though it is for a private party. We'll be warming up our voices for the 18th next week for our very last show of the calendar year.

¡@

We would also like to take this opportunity to wish Kevin Wang the best in all his endeavors. We'll miss your 'dao dao's and 'daom daom's next semester. Keep it real, Major Domo. Also, John Philips '09 will be going abroad to Ecuador next semester and we're sure he'll have a blast there. Maybe he'll learn how to sing in Espanol while he is there - adelantado Eileen...

¡@

And to everyone else, good luck with finals and have a great break. Stay warm.

Wrapping up

Date: 6th Dec '07

Another semester, another Cafe, another amazing night. Thanks to all of our friends, family and fans, our fall Cafe was a great success. We hope you all had as much fun as we did, because we rocked the lights out of Devlin. Congratulations to the new guys for a job well done, and to the group for bringing their A game on Wednesday night.

¡@

With that said, our semester is not quite over yet. Catch us before we leave at the following shows:

¡@

Breaking the Barriers Ball - Thursday 6th December, 5.30pm (we're on at 7.30pm) Gasson 100

Winter Wonderland Alumni Show - Saturday 8th December, 3pm Newton Alumni House

¡@

Also, check out our sister group, the Sharps, on Friday night:

¡@

Sharps on Ice - Friday 7th December, 8pm Devlin 008

And then there were... 3?

Date: 30th Nov '07

As we return from Thanksgiving break, the Heightsmen move into 'Powerweek' - we're busy preparing songs (and dances) for our big show next week:

¡@

Heightsmen Fall Cafe

Wednesday, 5th December

Devlin 008

7pm

¡@

Don't miss out on the best A Cappella of the semester!

¡@

The Heightsmen would like to thank our family and friends for all their support in helping the group navigate through a hectic schedule this year. We would also like to thank our advisor Father Leahy for being there for us - and buying us pizza. It's been a good year so far, and we'll make you proud on Cafe night.

¡@

The gigs list will also be updated within the day to show our last 3 shows around campus before we all head home for the break. Can't get enough of us? Then check out the gigs page and we'll see you at the show!

It's getting cold up here...

Date: 2nd Nov '07

Winter is almost upon us, and that means two things:

¡@

- SHeightsmen is about to go down

- Walking from the quad to McGuinn for class will soon get really dangerous

¡@

SHeightsmen takes place this coming Saturday, November 10th, in Devlin 008 at 6.30pm. Don't miss the show where the all-male and the all-female groups come together for 2 hours of the best A Cappella on campus! We will be singing songs from both our repertoires, as well as a few extras, just for you. See you Saturday before the Maryland game!

Gracias

Date: 22nd Oct '07

When it's Sunday afternoon and you realize you've still lost your voice, you know you've had a good show. Thank you to all those who showed up at the show to support us in spite of all the events going on - Red Sox anyone? Also, kudos to our dedicated alumni for making time for us. We had a blast singing on stage with you all.

¡@

¡@

As the weather begins to get colder, the Heightsmen are beginning to turn on the heat. With two new songs under our belt, we are looking to learn another two more (check our repertoire page for more info). Also, we have two more big shows on campus this year - SHeightsmen and Fall Cafe. Keep an eye on our gigs page for more gigs during the semester.

¡@

Good luck with midterms

Still going strong

Date: 11th Sep '07

First, a big thank you to all those who attended A Cappella fest to support us. It was our freshmen's first big show of their time with us and it was an absolute blast.

¡@

As we move past the first month of school, we begin to look towards our events this semester. While the dates have yet to be finalized for some of our gigs, we'll be hosting 3 major events on campus this year:

¡@

-Alumni Show - moved forward from second semester for the first time)

-SHeightsmen - co-hosting a performance with the Sharps!

-Fall Cafe - THE A Cappella show of the year, in our humble opinion.

¡@

Further, we'll also be looking to start recording this semester as this year is recording year. In order to do so, we will need funding. Our last hit album Major Domo Sings the Hits is still on sale right now, so do us a favour and give us a buzz to order one now!

¡@

Upcoming shows:

- Alumni Show: Oct 20th. Come and join us as we welcome back our alumni

New H

Date: 11th Sep '07

600 minutes of auditions, 160 minutes of deliberations and 70 dollars worth of pizza culminated in the selection of the new Heighstmen.

¡@

The Heightsmen will like to welcome and congratulate our new members:

¡@

- Jordan Lofaro '11

- Dan Landau-Smith '10

- Dan Mogelnicki '11

- National anthem at ARMY home game, 22nd Sept, time TBA

- A Cappella fest, late Sept

A new voice

Date: 5th Sep '07

Brilliant weather, the smell of fresh furniture and the sound of pickups driving around campus means only one thing -the start of a new semester.

¡@

Welcome class of '11!

¡@

Want to join one of BC's greatest traditions, and to serenade from Montreal to New York? Join the Heightsmen! Auditions for the Heightsmen will be running this weekend and after:

¡@

This will be a busy semester for us as we will be, for the first time, having our annual alumni show in the fall, along with other gigs around and off campus. Be sure to check the gigs list or the newsfeed for updates - we'll be posting details on shows that you can't miss throughout the semester.

A new voice

Date: 5th Sep '07

Another cafe and the end of another year. This semester flew by really quickly with gigs here and there. Thank you to all of our fans for being so supportive - you helped make this a very memorable and successful year for the group.

¡@

But the year isn't quite over yet - not for us anyway. The Heightsmen are staying around for senior week for their last two gigs before people head off in different directions:

 - First we have a small gig over at the Newton Country Club on the 18th for a private alumni party.

 - Last but not least, the Heightsmen sing farewell to their graduating senior and president, Dara Beirne '07 on the 20th in O'Neil Plaza around noon.

Check us out if you're still on campus or around the area!

¡@

Officer selections have also been made for next semester. Officers are as follows:

 - President - Peter Heyer

 - Business Manager - Mike Killian

 - Co-Music Directors - Kevin Wang (1st semester), Jim Luo (2nd semester)

 - Treasurer - Jason Ng

 - Social Director - Tim Dolan

Updates to the group page will be made after the show on the 20th.

¡@

Thank you again to everyone for being there for us - roommates, friends, girlfriends, family, fans, and of course Father Leahy. We'll see you next semester!

¡@

P.S. We are still looking for photos of the Cafe. Keep an eye out for more photos in the future, and if you have any, please send them over to keldjura@gmail.com

Home Stretch - UPDATE

Date: 17th April '07

After a trip to Montreal where we sang in malls and restaurants for puzzled and surprised French Canadians (who were also dazzled by our charming good looks, of course), the Heightsmen are beginning to prepare for the last few shows of the semester.

¡@

Coming up first is our gig at the ArtsFest in O'Neil Plaza on Thursday, 26th April, at 2.45pm. We'll be busting out a few songs with the Acoustics, so catch us there!

¡@

More importantly, our Senior show/Spring Cafe is set for May 2nd, the last day of school, in Devlin 008. The time is still TBA, but we should begin around 7.30pm roughly. Don't forget to mark it on your calendars - it'll be your last time to catch our Seniors (Dara Beirne and Kevin Wang) before they sing as graduates during Senior Week.

¡@

In other news, we have uploaded some photos from the Montreal trip. We have also auditioned our last solo of the year. Congratulations to Jim Luo '09 for getting the solo for Gone, by N Sync.

¡@

Our thoughts and prayers are with those at Virginia Tech. We were all shocked to hear about the shootings, we are truly sorry that the tragic events happened. Hang in there, VTech.

¡@

-Update-

¡@

- So turns out our resident web geek doesn't know how to count. The gig's page has been fixed - our cafe will be in Devlin 008 the day BEFORE classes end. We'll also be singing at the Newton Country Club on the 18th of May.

- Dara's also submitted the last newsletter of the semester (or at least, that's what we're assuming), so take a look!

Spring things

Date: 20th March '07

Well rested from Spring Break and St. Patrick's Day weekend, the Heightsmen are ready to take on the remainder of the semester. As of now, we have a few gigs ahead of us:

¡@

Dance Marathon - Sat March 24

A Cappella Beanpot - Sat March 31st

Arts Fest - Thurs March 26

Senior Show/Cafe - TBA

¡@

The Beanpot is definitely a highlight for the semester, as one group from every Beanpot school will duke it out on March 31st, and the Heightsmen are ready to take the title. Come on down to support us at our shows and get some of the best entertainment on and off campus. Speaking of supporting, our sister group - the Sharps - are having their Alumni Show this coming Saturday at Cushing 001, 7:30 pm to 10:30 pm so check that out too.

¡@

The website is again still being fixed and updated. The Alumni page has now been put up, as have photos from our Vermont trip, where we met guys from RockAppella, Jabberwocks of Brown, Smiffenpoofs of Smith and other groups perform. Have a look!

Hittin' the road

Date: 2nd March '07

With the beautiful weather here in Boston right now, the Heightsmen are packed and ready to leave for Spring Break. Though most people are headed to the warm, sunny beaches of Cancun, the Heightsmen are headed to Vermont for the weekend for a gig at Brattleboro, Jenzer '10s hometown. This is gonna get messy. Check back for photos and such when they're available.

¡@

In other news the repertoire page has been updated again. Congratulations to Mike Killian and Jim Luo for getting solo/duet parts to Sugar Ray's - Every Morning. We'll be learning the song in the upcoming weeks, so look to hear this sweet tune from us soon.

¡@

The website is now roughly 80% updated. Please send Jason an email at ngjg@bc.edu if you find anything wrong. He gets lonely sometimes.

Website updates

Date: 18th February '07

As you have hopefully noticed, the website is currently being overhauled again, because our web-guy Jason didn't really like the old one. Since it's midterms time, the update will take some time, so bear with us. Please let us know what you think about the new layout and whether there are any dead links here or there at ngjg@bc.edu

In other news, we have updated the gigs page - congratulations to John Kane for getting the solo to In the Still of the Night by Boyz II Men. We are also looking to put up photos from Alumni show and Valentines serenades. If you have any, please send them over to Jason at ngjg@bc.edu .

Looks like we'll be singing in a few different places from now until the end of semester, so keep an eye out for updates on the gigs list.

Clash of the old and the new

Date: 25th January '07

Coming on Saturday, February 3rd  the Heightsmen will be hosting their 16th Alumni Show. With 17 years of great music and entertainment, you would want to be there! Come to Gasson 100 at 7pm to see old classics from past records such as Symposium, Wild Pitch! and Who's Making Sauce? and other songs that were never recorded. We'll see you there!

¡@

Though these songs won't make it to the alumni show, we have finalized our new repertoire for the semester. Our three new additions are:

¡@

Boyz II Men - In the Still of the Nights

N Sync - Gone

Sugar Ray - Every Morning

¡@

Check out our repertoire page to see the whole repertoire in all its glory.

¡@

And last but certainly not least, see the Heightsmen sing the national anthem at the Hartford v. BC game on Wednesday in Conte Forum before tip-off at 7pm. So come early to the game to support us - nothing beats thousands of Superfans screaming for you as you stand center-stage. We know who we're rooting for, do you?

And then we were 15... wait, 17?

Date: 25th January '07

Again, a big thank you to all those who came for callbacks. There was a lot of talent and we spent quite a while deliberating on the future of the group, concerning taking on new members. But without further ado, we would like to welcome our new member: Barrett Principe.

¡@

Congratulations. We are excited to take on a new member, as it will obviously further the group in both musical fields and otherwise. We would also like to thank all those who tried out and encourage them to try out again next semester. We are always looking for great, new talent.

¡@

Photos will be up and the group page will be updated ASAP.

¡@

In other news, coming up next Saturday, on February 3rd, we will be having our 16th Alumni show! Ever wanted to see old men sing? Well, come over to Gasson 100 at 7pm on February 3rd to see not just the current group, but 17 years worth of the best entertainment on campus. This really isn't something you want to miss!

So you sing, huh? Do you dance too? - update

Date: 22nd January '07

Thank you to all those who came and auditioned these last two days. We saw a number of worth performances, but we had to narrow down our selection. After careful deliberation, we have decided on inviting the following to our callback on Wednesday:

¡@

Barrett Principe

Sean Dekow

Chris Rennie

Jacob Ishibashi

¡@

Callbacks will begin at 5pm and should end roughly around 7pm on Wednesday 24th January. Please prepare a solo - it can be anything that is not a show-tune. Anyone who does not show up to or doesn't stay for the entire duration of callbacks will not be considered. If you have any questions about conflicts or anything in general, please call our President Dara at 415-847-5267.

Again, thank you to all those who tried out. See you on Wednesday.

---

After a much-needed winter break at home, the Heightsmen return to BC. Our first order of business: Spring Auditions. That's right, the Heightsmen are calling for any interested in joining us. Come on down to one of our two sessions to join BC's arguably best A Cappella group! (sorry ladies, men only)

¡@

Details are as follows:

Sunday Jan 21st, Keyes North Lounge          12 noon—2.00pm

Monday Jan 22nd, O’Connell House              7.30—9.30pm
