Hi DOBC alumni!!

I hope everyone is having a great year so far! DOBC has had a very exciting and eventful fall season.

In September the new Board got to know each other and started planning exciting events for the school year. We recruited many new freshmen by hanging banners, posting signs, and eagerly finding potential dancers at student activities day. Auditions followed soon after and went fabulously. The classes were taught by board members and went as smoothly as possible. We had a great turn out and gained some beautiful new dancers who are a great addition to DOBC. After that we quickly started rehearsals and planning for the upcoming show. The show this year, entitled IMPACT, is full of talent and surprises. There are a number of very creative and original pieces. I don’t want to give too much away but the show will be very exciting and riveting.

Mid October we had our annual “Welcome to DOBC” event where all the girls got a chance to know each other outside of rehearsals. This year after a pizza party we divided into teams and went on a scavenger hunt which included activities such as performing four 8 counts in O’Neil plaza, leaping through the mod gates, Macarena-ing on the Newton bus, and doing a very dancer version of the Heisman in front of the new Doug Flutie statue. The night was really fun and concluded with a cheer competition and prizes for the winning team. It was a great way for the girls to get to know each other better and see one another outside of rehearsals.

Studio classes have been running throughout the fall and have been going great. Monday through Thursday we offer ballet, modern, jazz, tap, and hip hop beginning classes to anyone within the BC community. Classes have had a great turn out and girls seem to be really enjoying them. They are taught by our own DOBC performers and we are looking into performance opportunities for them.

More recently we are continuing to work on rehearsals and enhancing our show. We are also working on photo shoots for the program, costume ideas, and the Christmas Showcase.

The girls all miss the recent alumni and the juniors abroad; everyone sends their love. Feel free to email me (mcdermju@bc.edu) if you have any DOBC questions or want to send us updates with what you’ve been up to. You’re also all invited to stop by rehearsals to visit and say hi.

We hope to see you all at our show in February!!

Love, & dance!
