They will be taught by current and past choreographers, officers, and guest dancers.
• There is a required audition in order to participate in the show on Sunday, September 23rd in the Brighton Gym. You may try out for one genre of dance, or all of them (ballet, point, tap, jazz, and/or hip hop). Trying out for just one genre will not hurt or help your chances of being in the show.
• If you become a member of the show, you will be asked to pay dues. Dues are a flat rate of $30 to be in the show and in the minimum 2 pieces required. Each dance (above and beyond the required 2 dances) is an additional $2. For example, if you are in three dances, you will pay $32, if you are in four dances you will pay $34, if you are in five dances you will pay $36, etc. The officers will be collecting dues AND taking measurements for costumes in at the mandatory Performers Meeting on Monday, September 24th at 7:00pm in Higgins 310. If you do not pay your dues, you will not be able to participate in the show.
• Rehearsals start in September and will meet at the discretion of the choreographer.
• The first and second rehearsals are mandatory. The first rehearsal is to try the dance and the second rehearsal is to commit.
• Come 15 minutes early to all rehearsals to stretch so that rehearsals may start on time.
• There is a possibility that you will be cut from a dance if there are too many people interested in the dance. The policy for cutting is based on factors such as the number of dances you are in, seniority, number of years in the club, etc.
• Some costumes are paid for by the club. However, there is a possibility that you may have to pay for some of your costumes.
• You will not receive any costumes until you have paid your choreographer for them.
• If you decide to pull out of a dance, you will still need to pay for your costume if it has already been ordered.
• If there are any problems, please discuss them with the choreographer.
• If you miss a rehearsal, it is your responsibility to email your choreographer 24 hours beforehand and to learn the steps from someone else in the dance prior to the next rehearsal. Choreographers do not have time to re-teach steps every week.
• Dancers are allowed to miss 2 rehearsals, provided they contact their choreographer beforehand. If a dancer misses 3 rehearsals, DOBC has the right to cut her/him from the dance.
• No boyfriends, girlfriends, or friends are allowed at ANY rehearsals: this includes weekly rehearsals, extra rehearsals, dress rehearsal or rehearsal the day of the show.
• You must be present for ALL extra rehearsals the week of the show. This includes the rehearsal time required THE DAY OF THE SHOW. Mary will write a note to any professors requiring one.
