Since its establishment in 1996, the Cape Verdean Student Association (CVSA) has generated a major presence on the Boston College campus. It is also very well known across colleges and universities around the New England area. CVSA was founded by a group of Cape Verdean-Americans at UMass Amherst in 1982. Its success and popularity on the Amherst campus sparked a whole chain and Cape Verdean Student Associations on campuses throughout the region including: UMass Dartmouth, Northeastern, Suffolk University, Boston College, etc. The organization seeks to educate, promote, and illustrate the history of Cape Verde’s rich culture to the student body, faculty, and administration of each college or university. Today the CVSA of Boston College is known for its delicious food, harmonious music, entertaining dances, powerful history and much more. We take pride in holding events that are entertaining as well as educational. We welcome everyone to attend our events and join our club.

Some of our more popular events include Perspective Weekend, Dance Lessons, Cooking Lessons, One Mic and the CVSA/HA Food Night. This year, we also participated in the African Diaspora Food Night, Inter-cultural Game Night, and the UNITY Dinner. Recently, we introduced the Relaxation Night during finals which proved to be a great success. Next semester, we plan on hosting a CV Night party, an Amilcar Cabral Celebration, a culture show, One Mic, What is a Cape Verdean?, the CVSA Summit, a collaboration with OLAA, Candy grams during Valentine’s week, etc. In particular, we plan on dedicating great attention to Black History Month! Throughout the semester we will also be heavily involved with the AHANA Caucus. Look out for us! |
