The Cape Verdean Student Association, better known as CVSA, has come very far since it was first established in 1996. We are a major presence on the Boston College campus, as well as on many other colleges and universities around the New England area. CVSA was founded by a group of Cape Verdean-Americans at UMass Amherst in 1982. Becoming a very successful group, it was then established at Boston College, followed by other smaller universities and colleges. The purpose of creating the organization was to educate, promote and illustrate the history of our rich culture to the student body, faculty and administration. Today, we are well known on the BC campus for a number of reasons: our delicious food, harmonious music, entertaining dances, unique appearance, powerful history and more. We like to have events that teach others about our culture, but are also fun to attend. We welcome everyone to attend our events and join our club!

Some of the more popular events we hold are Perspective Weekend, Dance Lessons, Cooking Lessons, One Mic and the CVSA/HA Food Night. This year, we also participated in the African Diaspora Food Night, Inter-cultural Game Night, and the UNITY Dinner. A new event we have is the Relaxation Night during finals. (12/12/07, 8-10pm, Vandy 6th Floor Lounge). For next semester, we have planned a CV Night party, an Amilcar Cabral Celebration, a culture show, One Mic, What is a Cape Verdean?, the CVSA Summit, a collaboration with OLAA, Candygrams during Valentine's week, and a lot of interesting events for Black History Month! (Shout out to the United Front) We don't want to be considered one of the "small clubs" on campus anymore. We want to be a force on campus so definitely look out for us because we
are doing it big this year thanks to our members and the AHANA Caucus. |
