Edison K-8
Placement
Edison K-8 is a Boston public school on 60 Glenmont Rd off of Lake St (about a 7 minute walk from lower campus). There are about 800 students from very diverse backgrounds, including students from Iraq, India, and Burma. Many of the children come from low-income families (90% qualify for free or reduced lunch) and live all over Boston.
4Boston's Role
Tutoring, mentoring, running groups, planning and playing with the kids at recess, helping out in the classroom etc. Mentoring responsibilities can include helping kids to become more familiar with English since many come from immigrant families.
Hours
The school is open 8:30 AM - 2:30 PM, Monday-Friday. This does not mean you go for all 6 hours. Volunteers will select a 4-hour period that best fits their schedule. The 4-hour service period can also be broken up into two 2-hour slots to accommodate volunteers with difficult schedules.
