Mass of the Holy Spirit This Sunday

Mass of the Holy Spirit This Sunday

University President William P. Leahy, SJ, will be the principal celebrant and homilist at the annual Mass of the Holy Spirit this Sunday, Sept. 10, at 4 p.m. on O'Neill Plaza. The Mass, typically held at the beginning of the academic year, is a tradition at Catholic colleges and universities that dates back to the Middle Ages.

"The Holy Spirit has always been associated with the gift of wisdom," explained Director of Campus Ministry James Erps, SJ. "In the midst of making academic progress we should not lose sight of wisdom. It is not the same as knowledge.

"Through the Mass we ask God to bless Boston College, the new school year and the academic mission of the University," Fr. Erps said.

Music will be provided by the Liturgical Arts Group, Boston Brass and St. Ignatius of Loyola Church organist Timothy Zimmerman, a part-time faculty member in the Music Department.

Some students, faculty and staff will participate in the Mass as lectors and Eucharistic ministers.

Following the celebration all in attendance are invited to a picnic-style dinner at O'Neill Plaza.
