Cardinal Francis Arinze to Discuss Interreligious Dialogue Oct. 31

Cardinal Francis Arinze of Nigeria, president of the Pontifical Council on Interreligious Dialogue at the Vatican and a candidate to succeed Pope John Paul II, will speak on "Interreligious Dialogue and the Catholic University" on Tuesday, Oct. 31 at 7:30 p.m. in Gasson 100.

The son of a Nigerian tribal chief, Cardinal Arinze was appointed to the council in 1985, the same year Pope John Paul II named him a cardinal.

The council's responsibilities are to promote mutual understanding, respect and collaboration between Catholics and followers of other religious traditions; encourage the study of religions; and promote the formation of persons dedicated to dialogue.
