Hockey Team Visits White House Today

Having accepted formal congratulations from its home state last week, the 2001 NCAA national champion Boston College hockey team will be honored today at a White House ceremony.

The event will include remarks by President George W. Bush, a photograph session with the president and a tour of the White House. Team members also will visit some of the other attractions in the nation's capital.

On May 3, the champions visited Beacon Hill and took a tour of the Massachusetts State House. Acting Governor Jane Swift offered her congratulations to the Eagles at a ceremony in her office. The team presented the governor, who is expecting twins, with two autographed hockey sticks.

The team also received congratulations from House Speaker Thomas Finneran and Senate President Thomas Birmingham.
