Blood platelet donors are needed

The Blood Donor Center at Brigham and Women's Hospital is seeking members of the Boston College community who are willing to be volunteer platelet donors for patients during the month of December.
Platelets are clotting components in the blood which are essential in treatment of patients battling a broad range of cancers, including leukemia and lymphoma. Patients who are undergoing chemotherapy or open heart surgery or who have suffered traumatic injury are often in need of platelets.

Platelet supplies are replenished only through volunteer donations and individual contributions. Because they have a shelf life of five days, the need for platelet donations is constant.

Platelet donors should allow for approximately two hours to complete the donation process. The Brigham and Women's Hospital mobile van will provide transportation to and from Boston College. For more information, contact Ted McCarty at ext.2-1075.
