Benefits Offices Announces Small Hike in Health Rates for Next Year

The Benefits Office has announced a minor rate increase in employees' medical and dental insurance plans for the coming year.

In the annual health plan update sent to all employees last week, Benefits Office Director Jack Burke said Harvard Pilgrim premiums will rise by 2.85 percent for both the PPO and HMO plans.

While the rates will be unchanged for BC's primary dental plan, DeltaPremier, there will be a 4 percent increase in the premiums for DeltaCare, the managed-care dental plan option.

"We're happy to say that these are the smallest increases we've seen in a few years," said Burke. "We were particularly pleased by the low medical rate increase, which Harvard Pilgrim attributed primarily to better claims experience for the Boston College group."

During April, eligible BC employees may switch coverage from one plan to another, enroll in a medical or dental plan for the first time or change membership from individual to family or vice versa. The enrollment period ends April 26.

Additional information is available in the Benefits Office in More Hall 325.
