A sociology professor and senior researcher at the Center for Development Studies at the Central University of Venezuela in Caracas, Sonntag is conducting a monthly seminar at BC this year under a Guggenheim Fellowship. The German-born scholar was awarded the prestigious fellowship to pursue his work on exclusion, poverty, integration and cohesion in comparative perspective. He also is a visiting scholar at Brown University.
"That he wanted to spend time here is an indication of the vigor of our academic community," said Vice President for Research and Graduate Arts and Sciences Dean Michael Smyer.
Sonntag will lead a colloquium, "Latin American Politics and the Beginning of a New Century," on Monday, Dec. 6 at 3:30 p.m. in McGuinn 415.
