James Banks, a professor at the University of Washington-Seattle and director of its Center for Multicultural Education, will present a public lecture titled "Diversity, Citizenship and Curriculum Transformation" on Monday, March 20, at 4:30 p.m. in the Lower Campus Dining Hall Heights Room.
A past president of the American Educational
Research Association and the National Council for the Social Studies, Banks
is the editor of the Handbook of Research on Multicultural Education .
He also has published Teaching Strategies for Ethnic Studies , Cultural
Diversity and Education: Foundations, Curriculum and Teaching , Teaching
Strategies for the Social Studies and Educating Citizens in a Multicultural
Society .
The lecture, which is sponsored by Phi Delta
Kappan, will be followed by a reception and book-signing.
