The University dedicated a flagpole Jan. 20 in the memory of Boston College Police Sgt. Edward M. Keady, a 19-year veteran of the force who died last Jan. 15 after a brief illness.
University President William P. Leahy, SJ, offered a prayer and greetings at the event, which was held at the flagpole located between the Rubenstein and 90 More Road residence halls on Lower Campus. BC Police Chief Robert Morse, Lt. Margaret Connolly and Patrol Officer/EMT Patrick Rose also spoke. Keadyís widow, Karen, attended the dedication.
After a moment of silence and a rendition of "Amazing Grace" on bagpipes by Boston police, members of the force performed a flag-raising ceremony and salute to honor Keady.
