The Office of Public Affairs announced that Senior Staff Writer Sean Smith, who joined the University in 1989, has been appointed editor of the Boston College Chronicleeffective Feb. 1.
Smith replaces Michael Seele, who left the University
to assume the post of public relations director at Wheelock College. Seele
had served as editor since 1989, when the publication was named Biweekly.
Before arriving at BC as a staff writer in what was then the Office of Communications, Smith worked as assistant editor and staff writer for four years at NewsWest, a weekly newspaper based in Natick. He also was a staff writer and sports editor for the Blackstone Valley Tribune in Whitinsville, Mass., from 1983-85.
Smith graduated from Boston University in 1983 with a bachelorís degree in journalism.
In addition, the office announced that Mark Sullivan, who joined the University as a staff writer in 1997, has accepted the position of senior staff writer.
"Sean Smith brings to this position more than 15 years of experience, coupled with a solid understanding of Boston College and its people," said Jack Dunn, director of Public Affairs. "He is a talented journalist and skilled editor who will continue to elevate the status of Chronicle.
"Mark Sullivan is an excellent writer who has earned the position through his dedication and journalistic skills," added Dunn. "I look forward to working with him in the years to come."
