Nursing Journal Honors Mahony

Asst. Prof. Deborah Mahony (SON) has been doubly honored for her research on children's health issues by a national association.

Pediatric Nursing , a monthly journal published by the Annual Conference of Pediatric Nursing, selected Mahony as winner of its 1998 New Writers Award along with Jane Murphy, a 1996 School of Nursing alumnus now working as a nurse practitioner at Children's Hospital. Mahony and Murphy were chosen for their co-authored article "Neonatal Drug Exposure: Assessing A Specific Population and Services Provided By Visiting Nurses."

Pediatric Nursing Editor Veronica Feeg formally presented Mahony and Murphy with the award at the school on Oct. 5.

In addition, ACPN designated Mahony as winner of its Innovative Practice and Research Award, given annually to support innovative clinical research. Mahony will use the $1,000 grant to fund the project "School-Age Children Witnessing Domestic Violence: Health Providers Perspective," which she is directing with Prof. Ronald Nuttall (SOE).

"It's quite exciting to have this kind of recognition," said Mahony. "I am especially pleased with the New Writers Award; I enjoy working with my students and to share this award with one of them means a lot."
