The Romero Scholarships are named in honor of the Archbishop of San Salvador, who was assassinated in 1980 and is regarded by many Salvadorans as a martyr in their country's struggles against repression and poverty. A committee of adminsitrators, faculty and students award the scholarships to BC juniors of Latino descent who best represent the values and ideals inherent in the life of Oscar Romero. Students are selected on the basis of their academic performances and dedication to community service.
