More than 180 Greater Boston businesswomen gathered to share experiences and hear speakers discuss ways to further the growth and success of women entrepreneurs at an Oct. 8 conference in the Lower Campus Dining Hall.

Sponsored by the Small Business Development Center, "The Women Owned Business Conference" marked the area's first extensive gathering of women business organizations, according to SBDC Management Counselor Maureen Campanella, who organized the event.

University Trustee Benaree Wiley, president and CEO of The Partnership - which helps people of color attain leadership roles in the local business community - greeted the conference participants.

"I cannot begin to overstate the importance of bringing together people who have similar values, goals and aspirations," she said, "and provide them a forum to build upon one another's knowledge, strategize together. I strongly encourage you to take full advantage of it ... to share with the people you're sitting next to what your dreams, your challenges and your fears are."

Fashion Inc. President Caroline Collings was the event's keynote speaker.
