Verma, a native of India, was chairman of the constitution committee and a member of the steering committee of the American Library Association's Support Staff Interests Roundtable.
He was also a member and officer of the Council on Library/Media Technicians, and was named a "Man of the Year" for 1996 by American Biographical Institute, Inc., a publisher of international "Who's Who" compendia.
