Beginning today, May 22, through Aug. 21, most University offices will close at 3 p.m. on Fridays. Sullivan issued several guidelines associated with the policy:
-It applies to Friday afternoons between 3 and 5 p.m. and may not be used to alter work hours at any other time.
-The shorter workday applies to those who are normally scheduled to work after 3 p.m. on Fridays. In the relatively few cases where a person's regular shift ends earlier than 5 p.m. on Friday, the employee may be released two hours early with the supervisor's approval.
-If an employee is required to work past 3 p.m., he or she may receive compensatory time off on another day approved by the supervisor.
-An employee who takes a vacation or sick day on Friday is charged with a full day and does not get an "extra" two hours to use at another time.
-Except as noted above, the University's policy is to provide coverage in all offices during normal working hours and employees are expected to work their regular schedules. Any proposal for an exception to this policy should be directed to Sullivan's attention.
Registration for the ride will be held from 9-11 a.m. and participants may start the ride when they are ready. Riders will circle the five-mile course as many times as they can. Helmets must be worn by all participants.
Greater Boston One to One, which is co-chaired by University Chancellor J. Donald Monan, SJ, pairs at-risk youths with responsible, caring adults and institutions in the area.
