Officer Kathleen Mullen received a blow to the chest when her cruiser was struck head-on on Cotton Street shortly after 5 p.m. by a car driven by Clarita Youyou, 39, of Waltham.
Both Mullen and Youyou were taken by ambulance to Beth Israel Hospital in Boston, where they were treated and released. But Mullen may require further medical treatment as a result of the crash, which aggravated a pre-existing condition, said BC Police Chief Robert Morse.
Boston College Police said Youyou told Newton police she was traveling between 20 and 25 miles per hour downhill on a snow-slicked street when she lost control of her car, which skidded into the oncoming cruiser driven by Mullen.
According to BC police, Youyou was charged by Newton police with driving at a greater than reasonable speed given the road conditions.
