Servers To Be Purchased With Grant

Boston College recently received a $50,000 grant from the Stratford Foundation for the purchase of nine new central data servers, which will help ensure that computer users have equal access to printing and on-line information.

Servers are central computers that provide data storage space and allow file-sharing by more than one user. In recent years, Boston College has had an increasing need for servers that allow both Macintosh and PC users to print, store and gain access to identical information, said Information Technology Systems and Network Services Director Rodney Feak, and the new servers will back up departmental servers in 16 buildings.

"The Stratford Foundation responded most generously to our request," he said. "The new servers will make our jobs easier and the jobs of departmental administrators easier."
