A black-tie event attracted over 800 founding members of the Boston College Club to the BankBoston building on Feb. 7 to mark the club's formal opening.

The downtown building's large lobby served as the main venue for the event, which featured performance by the BC student jazz ensemble BC bOp! Guests were shuttled up by elevator to the club, located on the building's 36th floor, for tours of the facility.

As they stepped off the elevator, members turned left down an antique-lined hallway to view two private dining rooms, each with a view of downtown Boston.

Walking back up the hallway past the reception desk, the members passed the club's bar on the left. The bar will be open weekdays from 5-7 p.m. and offers a view of Cambridge and the Charles River.

Next to the bar is the grill room, which also has a view of Cambridge and the river. The grill will be open for breakfast and lunch and, like all the club's facilities, is available for private gatherings. It accommodates up to 70 people and has a business-casual dress code.

At the end of the hallway is the formal dining room. The room has a nautical motif and can seat 110 people for lunch or dinner, 200 for a private party. The expansive room features floor-to-ceiling windows on three sides, with views of the financial district, Cambridge and Boston Harbor.

The club provides a venue for informal gatherings, and will feature academically and socially oriented programs. It is operated by Club Corporation of America, a leader in the club business which owns and operates over 200 clubs worldwide, and is open for breakfast and lunch during the week and for dinner on weekend evenings.

Membership in the club is open to Boston College alumni, faculty and staff, parents and friends of the University. Members enjoy reciprocal privileges at 230 other clubs across the country.

Membership is open to faculty and staff for an initiation fee of $150 and monthly dues of $20. For membership information, contact the Boston College Club at 946-2828.
