The topic of Goldstone's April 16 address is "Accountability for Crimes Against Humanity: Prosecution or Truth Commissions?"
Goldstone, who led the prosecution of war criminals in the two countries from 1994-96, is a justice of the Constitutional Court of South Africa and president of South Africa's National Institute of Crime Prevention and Rehabilitation of Offenders. He is the former chairman of the country's Commission of Inquiry Regarding Public Violence and Intimidation, which came to be known as the Goldstone Commission. In 1994, the American Bar Association honored Goldstone with its International Human Rights Award.
Goldstone's appearance marks the inaugural Owen M. Kupferschmid Memorial Lecture, sponsored by the Owen M. Kupferschmid Holocaust/Human Rights Research Project at Boston College Law School. The student-run project, founded in 1984 by Kupferschmid, a 1986 Law School graduate, is devoted to the worldwide study of legal responses to persecution and mass murder.
