Academic Vice President and Dean of Faculties William B. Neenan, SJ, has announced the availability of several faculty support programs in the 1997-98 academic year and beyond.

Ten 80 percent sabbaticals are available. Five are in the College of Arts and Sciences for the 1997-98 year; one is in the School of Nursing for the same period; and one each is available in the School of Education, the Law School and the Carroll School of Management, all for the 1997-98/1998-99 period. The next 80 percent sabbatical available in the Graduate School of Social Work will be for the 2000-01/2005-06 period. Information on application procedures and deadlines is available in each school's dean's office.

In addition, 17 Faculty Fellowships will be available in coming years. In 1997-98, there will be seven in A&S, one in SOE and one in SON. For the 1997-98/1998-99 period, five will be available in CSOM and one will be in GSSW. The remaining two will be offered in the Law School for the 1997-98/1999-2000 period. Details are available at the deans' offices.

Applications for either 80 percent sabbaticals or Faculty Fellowships must be accompanied by evidence that the applicants have attempted to secure outside funding.

Applications also will be considered for Research Expense Grants of up to $1,500 each. The application deadline for winter/spring grants is Oct. 11; the deadline for summer/fall applications is April 11, 1997.

Fifteen Research Incentive Grants of $5,000 each also will be available. Information on these, as well as the Research Expense Grants, will be sent to each faculty member.

Finally, eight Teaching/Advising Grants of $5,000 each will be awarded. Information on application deadlines and procedures will be sent to each faculty member by the University Council on Teaching in early December.
