Inauguration Events Begin Today

Two days of celebratory events surrounding the inauguration of William P. Leahy, SJ, as Boston College's 25th president begin today. The following is the schedule of public events.

Today, Oct. 17

Noon: Eucharistic Liturgy of the Holy Spirit, celebrated by Fr. Leahy with Canisius Professor and Jesuit Institute Director Michael J. Buckley, SJ, serving as homilist; O'Neill Plaza. All undergraduate classes between noon and 1:30 p.m. are cancelled.

3:30 p.m.: "Remembering a Past - Imagining a Future: Catholic Higher Education," an academic symposium moderated by Harvard University President Neil L. Rudenstine. Panelists include New York Times Religion Editor Peter Steinfels, Harvard Divinity School Professor J. Bryan Hehir and University of Chicago Law Professor Martha C. Nussbaum; Robsham Theater.

5:30 p.m.: Reception at Robsham Theater.

8 p.m.: Student Musical Salute featuring the Heightsmen, the Bostonians, the Sharps, the Acoustics, BC bOp!, Voices of Imani and Hello Shovelhead; Conte Forum Power Gymnasium.

9:30 p.m.: Reception, Conte Forum.

Tomorrow, Oct. 18

1 p.m.: Inaugural Ceremony featuring remarks by Gov. William Weld, Massachusetts Institute of Technology President Charles M. Vest, New England Jesuit Provincial William A. Barry, SJ, Fr. Leahy, and representatives of Boston College alumni, students, staff and faculty; Conte Forum. All undergraduate classes between noon and 3 p.m. are cancelled for the event.

3 p.m.: Reception in Conte Forum.
