The film, which will air on the Public Broadcasting Service network later this year or early next, is based on Michalczyk's research into medical ethics during the Third Reich and their relation to contemporary medical and ethical issues. Michalczyk coordinated a 1993 conference at the University on this topic, excerpts from which are shown in the film, and later released a book of the conference proceedings.
"Over time, Nazi doctors went from racial theory to sterilization of those deemed 'unfit,' to euthanasia," Michalczyk said, "until finally arriving at the Final Solution to the Jewish question: genocide. The film traces the medical involvement in this process and the questions it raises."
The event is sponsored by the Jesuit Institute, Alumni Association and Fine Arts Department, and will be followed by a reception.
