Fr. Monan To Receive Award From Por Cristo

The efforts of BC nursing students to bring health care to the poor of Ecuador will be recognized Feb. 8 when University Chancellor J. Donald Monan, SJ, receives the 18th annual Por Cristo Award.

Cardinal Bernard Law, the archbishop of Boston, will present the award to Fr. Monan at an annual fund-raising dinner at the Westin Hotel in Boston for Por Cristo, a non-profit organization affiliated with the Archdiocese of Boston which provides medical services in Latin America.

The award recognizes the support given to Por Cristo by Boston College during Fr. Monan's 24-year tenure as president of the University, event organizers said.

For the past five years, teams of students from the Boston College School of Nursing have traveled during their Christmas break to work with Por Cristo among the poor of Ecuador's largest city, Guayaquil.
