Fr. Grey taught American history for 32 years at the University after serving as assistant dean of the School of Education from 1953 to 1957. Colleagues remembered him as a devoted scholar who had an abiding love for books - he kept a personal library of more than 250 volumes in his room at St. Mary's Hall - who served with equal distinction as a school administrator.
In 1957, he became principal of Cheverus High School in Portland, Me., and was widely credited with turning the Jesuit school into a top-flight academy. He returned to BC in 1961, and retired in 1993.
Burial was in the Jesuit Cemetery at Campion Center in Weston.
