"It will be very difficult to leave Boston College," Fr. McFarland said. "I have truly enjoyed working with my colleagues and the many students I have met during my time here - in the classroom and residence halls, and through the musical events and other activities in which I've been able to participate. Being part of this community has been a great experience for me."
As dean, Fr. McFarland will provide academic and administrative leadership for a college which includes 1,800 full-time undergraduate students and 130 full-time faculty members, and offers 37 undergraduate majors.
Fr. McFarland began teaching at Boston College in 1981. Among his initiatives was the creation of a digital electronics laboratory.
