Parking To Be Changed

University employees who park in the area of McElroy Commons should prepare to find alternative arrangements due to the proposed Middle Campus Project, said Vice President for Administration John Driscoll. The project, awaiting approval by the Newton Board of Aldermen, will involve the construction of a new academic building, a new, consolidated student center and a replacement for McElroy Commons. If approved, the University's goal is to begin the project on or about June 1.

Driscoll said that should the project move forward, the University will discontinue parking in the McElroy area, including near the Beacon Street entrance. However, "A" permit holders will be able to use the top floor of the Commonwealth Avenue parking garage, he said, including the ramp leading to the floor.

"It is about an equal swap of spaces and should more than adequately replace those which would be lost to construction," Driscoll said. "That area offers the most convenient location to Middle Campus."
