Prof. Joellen Hawkins (SON) has been named editor-in-chief of a new publication, Clinical Excellence for Nurse Practitioners: The International Journal of NPACE , scheduled to debut in September.

The bi-monthly journal will bring an international perspective to the nurse practitioner field, Hawkins said, and provide news of research and policy affecting health care delivery and education. It will report on nurse practitioner practice and offer clinical information, she said, in addition to regular features and articles that synthesize clinical knowledge and research directly relevant to practice.

"I wouldn't have been a candidate if the University, and especially [SON Dean] Barbara Munro, hadn't been so supportive," Hawkins said. "I'm thankful for being allowed to fulfill my long-time dream and give something back to the profession."

As editor, Hawkins' duties include formulating guidelines for potential contributors, reviewing manuscripts and developing features. She is currently involved in the design of the publication and is also appointing a 30-member editorial board, which thus far includes her SON colleague Assoc. Prof. Sally Rankin.
