SAS sponsors hat and mitten drive for area children

The Boston College Staff Advisory Senate's Third Annual Christmas Hat and Mitten Drive will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 19 in conjunction with the President's Staff Holiday Luncheon in Conte Forum.

Staff members who wish to contribute to the drive are asked to bring a hat or mittens - wrapped or gift-bagged and labeled by gender and age group - to the luncheon. Children at the Dana Farber Cancer Unit, the Shriners Hospital Pediatric Burn Unit, the Home for Little Wanderers, the Immaculate Conception Rectory in Weymouth and the Boston College Campus School will receive the gifts.

In anticipation of the drive, the Boston College Bookstore has ordered an extra supply of hats and mittens.

Toy drive underway for Allston/Brighton kids

The Boston College Police Department is conducting a Christmas toy drive for needy children in Allston/Brighton.

Toys may be dropped off at the BCPD headquarters in Rubenstein Hall by Dec. 19.

Society inducts members, awards scholarships

The Golden Key Honor Society's Boston College chapter inducted new members, awarded scholarships and selected several faculty and administrators for honorary membership at a Nov. 20 ceremony.

In addition to the academically superior juniors and seniors inducted, junior Kevin Barry and senior Eve Piscina were awarded scholarships.

Honorary memberships were presented to Vice President for Student Affairs Kevin P. Duffy, School of Education Assistant Dean Maryalyce Gilfeather, Prof. Joseph Quinn (Economics), Assoc. Prof. Ann Marie Barry (Communication) and Assoc. Prof. Nancy Fairchild (SON).
