The award, named in memory of the late Archbishop of San Salvador known for his struggles against repression and poverty, carries a $2,500 scholarship.
Rivera has been active with the Organization of Latin American Affairs, the Boston College Karate Club and the Student Admissions Program. He served as the Undergraduate Government of Boston College cabinet director of AHANA, an international assistant for the Office of Student Development, and helped produce the University's first Latino student publication, among other activities.
The March 22 ceremony also featured the presentation of a $1,500 Computer Sciences Corp. Scholarship Award to Carroll School of Management student Jessica Santiago '97.
