Loyola Student Recovering from Attack
A visiting student from the University of Loyola at New Orleans who was injured in an altercation in the Cleveland Circle area on Sept. 14 is expected to be released from the hospital late this week.
Joseph Vairo, 19, of Holden, Mass., who was taking courses at Boston College after damage from Hurricane Katrina forced Loyola's closing, suffered multiple stab wounds to his chest and face in the early-morning incident on Chestnut Hill Avenue in Brighton.
He was hospitalized at Beth Israel-Deaconess Hospital following surgery for the wounds.
Another visiting student from Loyola, Marley Lovell, 20, of Oakland, Calif., suffered lacerations and a broken nose in the incident. He was treated and released from Brigham and Women's Hospital.
The Boston Police Department continues to investigate the case.
