BC Athletes Ready for Postseason

The Boston College men's basketball team, fresh from its impressive Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament debut, will look to build on its postseason success today when the Eagles tip off in the first round of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Basketball Tournament.

The Eagles, who are seeded fourth in the tournament's Minneapolis bracket, will meet the University of Pacific at 12:40 p.m. at the Jon M. Huntsman Center in Salt Lake City.

BC (26-7) lost a hard-fought 78-76 decision to Duke Sunday in the ACC championship. The Eagles, playing for the first time ever in the storied tournament, defeated Maryland and North Carolina to reach the final.

The BC women's basketball team (19-11) also earned a tournament bid and will face Notre Dame (18-11) on Sunday at Mackey Arena in West Lafayette, Ind.

Meanwhile, Sam Richardson '08 will begin competition today at the NCAA Fencing Championships in Houston. He is the first-ever epeeist from BC to reach the championships.

In other postseason action, the BC men's hockey team will take on Maine in the first round of the Hockey East semifinal round at 8 p.m. tomorrow in the TD Banknorth Garden.

The BC women's hockey team lost to New Hampshire, 6-0, in the Hockey East Championship on March 5. It was the first championship appearance for the Eagles, who this year have the most wins (20) in the program's history.

NCAA hockey regionals will be held March 25-26.
