Alpha Sigma Nu Book Award Deadline March 1

Faculty members or administrators who have written books on the subjects of social sciences, natural sciences, mathematics and computer sciences or health sciences are invited to submit their work to the 2006 Alpha Sigma Nu Book Awards competition. The deadline for entries is March 1. The competition, sponsored each year by the national Jesuit Honor Society, is open to academic authors from all 28 of the nation's Jesuit colleges and universities. Four cash prizes of $1,000 each will be awarded for winning publications.

Alpha Sigma Nu has recognized scholarship though this annual academic competition since 1979. The program is administered by the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities in Washington, DC.

A number of Boston College scholars have won Alpha Sigma Nu awards in recent years. In 2005, Rev. Francis Clooney, SJ, a former professor in the Theology Department now teaching at Harvard Divinity School, won first prize for his book, Divine Mother, Blessed Mother: Hindu Goddesses and the Blessed Virgin. Other BC winners have included Law School Dean John Garvey, Prof. Paul Davidovits (Chemistry), Prof. Peter Clote (Biology) and Prof. Callista Roy, CSJ (CSON).

Application forms and additional information are available from the dean's offices, from Alpha Sigma Nu faculty advisor William McInnes, SJ, or from the ASN website.
